Hawaii - Part 5

Here we are at yet another Hawaiian adventure!

This was the Kalalau Trail, which was the only way to get to see the amazing Hanakapiai Falls. Eight miles round-trip, in a pouring rain for more than half of it, we finished exhausted and literally covered in mud and soaking wet. But we finished with huge smiles on our faces! It was worth it. The falls were incredible, and had we had a ray of sunshine you can bet we would have all been swimming in the pool at the bottom. Despite the rain, though, it still remains one of the coolest things I've ever seen. It was so tall you couldn't see the beginning of the fall, and the sound of it was awesome! So here we are, Hawaii hiking round two!

View from the trail. This is along the Napali Coast, the road ends at the trail head and this part of the island is only viewable by foot or water. It was unbelievable. I know I keep saying that - but seriously, doesn't it look fake?! This is one of my favorite pictures from our trip, because it's exactly how it looks in real life. Green, green, green mountains meet crystal clear turquoise waters. Crazy pretty!

There was lots of rock hopping involved in this hike. No other way around it. So we hopped. And fell in some. And then just said "screw it!" and started sloshing through the water in our shoes and socks!! Which was way easier (and safer, I might add - Mr. Safety would not have liked the look of slick rocks in a pouring rain!).

All the way back to the car (four miles back out) we talked about the yummy hamburgers we were going to have if we ever made it through the pouring rain, and mud, and slick rocks, and swamp-like trail. It kept us going :) And yes, those burgers were dang good!
