Our first full day on the cruise was spent at sea, cruising by the enormous Hubbard Glacier. It was a beautiful sight, breathtaking even. The water near it was full of ice chunks. Mike H. made a point of referencing the Titanic iceberg many times, yelling out, "Iceberg dead ahead!"...I think he did it to hear the girls shriek. The glacier is the largest in North America, at 76 miles. It was awesome to see.

The view below our balcony. The ice in the water made a clinking sound as we passed through, like glass. It was amazing. And made for chilly glacier-watching!

And finally, the glacier in all its majesty. It extends back as far as you can see (the middle of the photo, between what are obviously mountains), and must be 20 feet thick. And that's just above the surface of the water. They say you only see 1/3 of icebergs, that the greater portion of them lies below the water.
This was one of my favorite days, cruising alongside this awesome site, drinking hot cocoa and laughing with our friends on their balconies. It was a great start to the cruise. And of course, I was so excited to see wildlife float by on a chunk of ice!!
